Gallup Tracking Shows Obama Bouncing

by Nick on August 28, 2008

Blatantly ripped off from billmon’s diary at DailyKos because it’s that cool:

Gallup’s latest tracking poll (a.k.a. “the worst thing to happen to journalism in ten years”) shows Obama going from up one point (45%-to-44%) over McCain yesterday (and a 2-point deficit the night before) to a six-point lead (48% to 42%) today.

And then an update from a commenter on that diary, CA Pol Junkie:

It’s not hard to get Excel to break out the day-by-day results.

August 20: O 45 M 43
August 21: O 45 M 44
August 22: O 45 M 45
August 23: O 45 M 46
August 24: O 45 M 44
August 25: O 42 M 48
August 26: O 48 M 40 (post-Michelle)
August 27: O 54 M 38 (post-Hillary)

Holy shit!

Obama for President!

by Nick on August 28, 2008

Barack Obama gave an incredible speech tonight.  I’ll get the video up ASAP.

John McCain says he’ll follow bin Laden to the gates of Hell, but he won’t even follow him to the cave he lives in!

Democratic Convention Night #1 Thoughts

by Nick on August 25, 2008

Wow!  Ted Kennedy was electrifying.  He showed up and delivered a fantastic speech despite having had surgery earlier this summer to deal with his brain tumor.  Who could have thought that Kennedy would be outdone later in the evening?

Michelle Obama gave one of the best speeches I have seen.  It was incredible.  She made the case not just for Barack Obama, but for Democratic ideals.  Ours is a party that is not content with the world as it is, but wants to strive for the world as it should be.  That is the center of Barack Obama’s message, and Michelle delivered it perfectly tonight.

It’s going to be a great week for Democrats.

Michelle Obama Bio and Speech

by Nick on August 25, 2008

Michelle’s mother narrates the biography piece:

Michelle’s brother Craig Robinson introduces her:

Michelle gives an incredible speech:

My favorite part:

Barack stood up that day, and spoke words that have stayed with me ever since. He talked about “The world as it is” and “The world as it should be.” And he said that all too often, we accept the distance between the two, and settle for the world as it is - even when it doesn’t reflect our values and aspirations. But he reminded us that we know what our world should look like. We know what fairness and justice and opportunity look like. And he urged us to believe in ourselves - to find the strength within ourselves to strive for the world as it should be. And isn’t that the great American story?

CONVENTION TIME!

by Nick on August 25, 2008

The convention has begun!  I’ll make sure to get any of the headline speeches (and any others that stand out) up as soon as they are available.  Things kick of with Michelle Obama tonight, but the first big speech will be Hillary’s tomorrow.  The media likes to keep pushing the “What will Hillary do?!?!?” question no matter how dumb that is; Hillary will give a great speech about why McCain sucks and why Obama should be President.  You can safely bet every cent you own on that.

Obama Picks Joe Biden

by Nick on August 22, 2008

JoeBidenLrgObama appears to have selected Joe Biden as his Vice Presidential running mate.  According to ABC News, the Secret Service has been dispatched to Biden’s house.  This, in addition to the growing list of people confirmed not to be the pick, makes it all but certain.

If Joe Biden isn’t the pick, then give some major credit to the Obama Campaign for pulling off quite a stunt….

UPDATE: CNN is also reporting that they have confirmed that the pick is Joe Biden.

Quick Thought About VP Speculation

by Nick on August 22, 2008

Just a thought, but perhaps the Obama campaign overplayed their hand by letting the hype build so much on the Vice President pick?  It seems that Bayh and Kaine are out (or so Andrea Mitchell claims), so Joe Biden looks like the probable guy.  But after a week or two of the media talking about Biden nonstop, won’t it just be a major let down if it’s him?

OH MY GOD IT’S… oh, it’s the guy they said it was.  That’s kind of boring… lame…

Which is why I’m going to go out on the line and say it’s not Biden (or Bayh or Kaine).  It’s gotta be someone no one is expecting (Hillary!), or this big build-up was kind of dumb.
